The pinafore has to be my favourite style of dress thanks to its versatility. It's a dress that can be worn as a summer frock in warmer weather and when it turns colder, you can pop layers underneath and still look fab.
This one is so 1960s in its design, the use of colour and print being so reminiscent of that era. The label, Diolen is actually a German brand of polyester fabric and so this dress has possibly travelled, not only through time. It is remarkably well kept considering its age and the pale creme colour. There had been some deterioration of the side seams, not uncommon as although polyester goes on and on, cotton does not and its often the seams that suffer. I have strengthened all seams so you can be assured nothing will come apart. The previous owner had hand-stitched the gaps that had appeared - I've left this stitching in place so you can see if you turn inside out. I love to find vintage mends!
Apart from that, there is a small pull on the right shoulder in the orange flower but nothing substantial.
The dress has two large front pockets, always a bonus and it fastens at the back with its original zipper in good working order.
A gorgeous dress that has plenty of wear left and a style that will distinguish it for many years to come.Underarm to underarm 19" / 38.5cm
