I have several items of military wear in my stock which has often been damaged, in some cases irreparably. This battledress blouse had a couple of tears in the left sleeve and also a small amount of moth damage. However, significant items of clothing that have helped shape our history should never be abandoned.

In this case, patching was the option I chose to disguise the tears and the worst moth holes were covered with buttons - others were invisibly darned.

The appliqued letters TORN on the front left sleeve have been handstitched using vintage fabrics that complimented the colours used in the insignia on the shoulders. The word chosed seemed significant, not only reflecting the damage to the garment but also possibly the wearer. The underside of the sleeve has Repair stitched onto a cotton patch, again a commentry on the damage to the jacket.

The buttons used have a military feel and complimented the existing style.

The epaulettes are decorated and there is a Dorset regimental badge and lettering on each side. There are two front chest pockets that fasten and the button placket is hidden. There is a buckle fastening at the waist.

The damage to this jacket was too great to repair invisible throughout and so I hope my visible mend will meet with approval and ensure this pice of military history can continue to be worn again and again.
